10 civilians killed in Afghan air raid

Published on 28 December 2009 - 5:21pm
More about:

In eastern Afghanistan, at least ten civilians have been killed in an air raid carried out by Western military forces. Eight of the victims were school children. Afghan President Hamid Karzai has condemned the incident and set up a committee to investigate it.

The deaths occurred in the province of Kunar, on the border with Pakistan. In protest at the attack, representatives of the province walked out of an important parliamentary meeting in Kabul.

The international security force ISAF says it has no information about operations in the region, but will start its own investigation. A senior Western military official has said the United States is active in Kunar, fighting against the Taliban.
