Ready to hit the ice

Published on : 1 February 2012 - 4:08pm | By Davion Ford (NOS screenshot)
More about:

The arrival of the season’s first extended period of cold weather has many people in the Netherlands excited about the chance to go ice skating.

Many of the pumping stations around the country have been cut off and boats have been banned from certain waterways in an attempt to promote the formation of ice. In Noordlaren, the first ice skating marathon has already been held, but some are hoping the freezing temperatures will remain long enough for the country to hold the fabled Eleven Cities Tour skating marathon.
