More about:

Within two weeks, images on the internet of a recent operation by Dutch marines against Somali pirates have been watched by over half a million people.

The clip that was distributed by the Dutch ministry of Defense on you tube broke a new record, according to a ministery spokesman in the Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad.

Shot on a small camera placed on the helmet of one of the marines, the video shows a raid in which a Dutch navy unit gets on board a German ship that was taken by Somali pirates and perform an arrest.

From the raw nature of the footage, viewers can get a glimpse of the tension and danger involved in such an operation.

The Dutch ministry of Defense have published almost 300 clips and video's on the internet as a way of direct communication with the public. The purpose is to show its operations without any comments from the media.
