Criticising the government in Egypt is a risky business. Nevertheless cartoonist Sherif Arafa calls himself a government critic. He uses his pen to draw sharp-edged cartoons, in which he explores the limits of censorship.

Mr Arafa has a few favourite subjects, topics which he thinks belong to the “illness of Egyptian society”. The corrupt education system and religious fanaticism. The cartoonist works for a state newspaper. The editor-in-chief allows him to do his own thing, and that has always been fine.

But there is one subject Mr Arafa won’t touch. He never draws President Mubarak. That is off limits.
