The African digital revolution

Published on : 15 April 2010 - 12:55pm | By RNW Africa Desk (Screenshot video)
More about:

Nairobi is buzzing! There is an energetic and innovative vibe in the city. A young generation has risen to take matters into their own hands.

In 2007, the Ghanaian economist George Ayittey already talked about these so-called cheetah generation. One which unlike the older hippo-generation still being grumpy about colonialism and imperialism, is finding new solutions to old problems.

With the Internet, they have finally found the key to pulling Africa out of the gutter. The innovative and creative applications they come up with make their world run as fast as the one in the West.

Video produced by triplePmedia, Jaap van 't Kruis en Stefanie Vermeulen.

This is really inspiring stuff nothing has the power like social media to transform lives. We need to see more from Africa, not just the usual sad stories of disease and poverty. Many thanks to the TriplePMedia team.
