Kenyan mothers in clinic

Africa in Progress - Radio - Wanted: healthy mothers

On air: 11 October 2011 0:00 - 18 October 2011 0:00 (Rutgers WPF/ Luther Carsten)

More about:

In Africa, the Millennium Development goal to reduce the number of maternal deaths by 75 percent by 2015 is unlikely to be reached.

A woman in sub-Saharan Africa has a 1 in 16 chance of dying in pregnancy or childbirth. In a developped country, the risk is 1 in 4,000.

Although economic growth is picking up on the African continent, maternal mortality has actually
increased in most countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. "Not one single mother should die while giving life" says Caroline Tati, a women’s rights activist from Kenya.

Guest: Caroline Tati ( Kenya)
Presenter: Ikenna Azuike
Dur: 29’22
