This week the court in the Rwandan capital Kigali sentenced opposition leader, Rwandan Victoire Ingabire to eight years in prison. The president of the UDF-Inkingi party has been found guilty of treason, genocide denial and financing a rebel group.


Each January thousands converge on the great Malian city of Timbuktu to celebrate music, tolerance and peace at the Festival au Désert. But not this year. Our West Africa correspondent Bram Posthumus has the story.


In some parts of Africa the end of the academic year is just around the corner. For many a time to revive from a year of study, exams and of course a little partying on the side. But the question arises: will more university graduates solve Africa's problems?


In Ghana, it seems that reading is becoming less and less popular. Frustrated with this development a group of writers have started the Ghana Reading clubs.
