Africa in Progress - Radio show: Mobility and the branding of Africa

On air: 13 February 2012 0:00 - 20 February 2012 0:00 (Photo: Flickr/Baigal)

More about:

Africans may have access to the most modern means of transport, but they face more and more barriers when it comes to traveling.

Mobility is the most pressing political issue today on the continent, says Manthia Diawara, our first guest in this edition. Mr. Diawara is a Malian writer, filmmaker, and scholar.

In the second part of the programme, we hear how Africa is being branded, or marketed, sometimes as a place that’s booming, sometimes as a failed continent.

And we end the programme with one of Africa’s premium brands: Miriam Makeba. She has inspired the African Mamas, a dynamic group of young singers from South Africa who are touring the globe with her music.
