Thousands complain about Poles on PVV site

Published on 10 February 2012 - 11:09am
More about:

Geert Wilders’ Freedom Party (PVV) received some 14,000 complaints on its new hotline against migrant workers from Central and Eastern Europe, reports Dutch newspaper de Volkskrant.

The PVV launched the website on Wednesday. “Are they causing you problems? Or did you lose your job to a Pole, Bulgarian, Romanian or other Central of East European? We would love to hear from you,” reads the introductory statement.

The response to the hotline is indicative of people’s need to air their grievances, says PVV MP Ino van den Besselaar.

The site's launch has stirred up considerable commotion. A spokesman from the Polish embassy in the Netherlands said Mr Wilders’ depiction of Polish workers as “polluting the Dutch job market” was insulting.

The embassy lodged a complaint about the site but national Ombudsman said he does not intend taking the complaint further because, he said, the actions of political parties do not fall within his domain.
