Shell confirms Qatar is new shareholder

Published on 11 May 2012 - 3:40pm
More about:

Anglo-Dutch energy giant Shell has confirmed that Qatar has taken a stake in the company.

Media report a stake ranging between three and five percent. Shell has not disclosed any further details. If true, a five-percent stake would make Qatar the company’s largest shareholder, data provided by Reuters suggest. The gulf state has been investing in oil and gas companies for some time. It already has a stake in French company Total and now is said to be considering a stake in Italy’s ENI. It is also a shareholder in Great Britiain’s Barclays bank and German car maker Porsche.
