Robbers have killed a Chinese national and wounded his female companion after blocking their car on a road in Nigeria's commercial city of Lagos, police said Friday.
"The man's car was blocked around Ogudu area of the city on Wednesday night. He was shot as he came out of the car to challenge the robbers," Lagos police spokeswoman Ngozi Braide told AFP.
A source close to the Chinese embassy in Nigeria told AFP three other Chinese nationals -- all female -- were inside the car at the time of the attack.
"They were returning from a ceremony when their car was ambushed by the robbers. The man driving the car was a businessman and he was shot dead on the spot while a female occupant was hit by a stray bullet," he said.
He said the injured victim was recovering in the hospital.
Cash, handsets and other valuables were taken away by the robbers before fleeing the scene, he added.
