Mexico honours Dutch artist

Published on 3 February 2012 - 2:36pm
More about:

Dutch artist Jan Hendrix has been awarded the Order of the Aztec Eagle, the highest Mexican decoration awarded to foreigners.

Jan Hendrix, who has been living and working in Mexico since 1978, was awarded the decoration for his achievements in art and architecture.

Hendrix’s visual and graphic art has been on display in galleries around the world. The Dutchman has also collaborated with numerous architects and authors, including W. G. Sebald, Gabriel García Márquez and compatriot Bert Schierbeek.

KLM CEO Peter Hartman was awarded the Order of the Aztec Eagle because of the long-lasting relationship between the North American country and the former Dutch national airline, which has been flying to Mexico without interruption for more than 60 years.

Queen Beatrix, Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Máxima received the Order in 2009 during their state visit to Mexico.
