Dioncounda Traore was sworn in as interim president of Mali on Thursday, taking over from the military officers who staged last month's coup in the troubled west African country.

Traore, who was speaker of parliament, took the oath of office at a ceremony in the capital Bamako attended by among others, the coup leader Captain Amadou Sanogo.
