Fertility treatments including IVF will no longer be covered for women who are over 43, caretaker Health Minister Edith Schippers has announced following consultations with the Health Care Insurance Board (CVZ).
The recommendation was drafted by the Dutch Association of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the Association for People with Fertility Problems, FREYA.
The proposal comes in response to a request by the health minister to seek alternatives to a plan included in the coalition agreement to reduce the number of fertility treatments covered by health insurance from three to one.
Both gynaecologists and patients also proposed to delay help for women who have a good chance of getting pregnant and to choose equally effective yet cheaper procedures.
