FC Zwolle earns entry into Premier League

Published on 14 April 2012 - 4:54pm
More about:

First division football club FC Zwolle earned itself a place in the Dutch premier league on Friday night.

In spite of a goalless draw against FC Eindhoven, trainer Art Langeler’s club secured the Jupiler League title and promotion next season. Zwolle’s only rival Sparta Rotterdam failed to clinch a victory against Almere City FC, drawing 1-1.

With just two matches to go Zwolle is 8 points ahead of Sparta. It has been eight years since FC Zwolle played in the Premier League.

Between 10,000 and 20,000 people are expected to turn out this evening to honour the 'blue fingers' in Zwolle as they travel by boat over one of the city's main canals.
