Published on 24 May 2012 - 9:37pm
More about:

Unemployment went up by 24,000 in April, reaching a total of 489,000, according to figures from the Dutch statistics office (CBS). The rise means that 6.2 percent of the Netherlands’ workforce is currently out of a job.

The increase in unemployment for April was relatively sharp: the average monthly increase over the last quarter was just 7,000. Both men and women were represented in April’s rise in the jobless figures.

The last time Dutch unemployment was over 6 percent of the workforce was more than six years ago.
