The Syrian government has given a Dutch diplomat 72 hour to leave the war-torn country, according to Syrian state television. The Dutch Foreign Minister says the move is no surprise.
On Tuesday, Dutch foreign ministry declared the Syrian ambassador persona non grata in the Netherlands, as a result of last week's bloodbath in the city of Houla. Outgoing Dutch foreign minister Uri Rosenthal says he was aware this could lead to the Syrian authorities expelling Dutch diplomat Janet Alberda from the country.
Mr Rosenthal recalled the Dutch ambassador to Syria back in February. One month later, the Dutch embassy in Damascus was closed.
