The 2010 FIFA World Cup kicks off in South Africa on June 11, 2010. Radio Netherlands Worldwide brings you a series of video interviews of African soccer players playing in the Eredivisie, the Dutch first division.
These players come from the five Sub-Saharan African countries qualified for the World Cup: Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon and South Africa.
We continue this series with Cheik Tioté from Ivory Coast.
"No, no, I don't think it'll be Ivory Coast who will win this World Cup."
This Ivorian midfielder of 23 years old says that he is realistic and that his country is not ready yet to win the competition. He talks about the tough opponents in his group namely Brazil, Portugal and North Korea - many consider as the Group of Death.
However, he believes hard in the capacity of his team players to give the best of themselves.
"It's not going to be easy but we'll do our best for sure."
When asked what he misses most about Ivory Coast, he has this to say:
Well it's the aspect of the African family. Normally, we're all together every evening and this is what's missing here a bit. Here, after training everyone goes home, whereas in Africa it's different. I can go and visit friends, eat out with them and all of that.
And finally, he speaks highly of Michael Essien from Chelsea. He says the Ghanian is his role model and that he has still a long way to go to reach his level.
Check out the previous Profiles: Bernard Parker (South Africa/FC Twente), Eyong Enoh (Cameroon/Ajax), Oluwafemi Ajilore (Nigeria/FC Groningen).
And don't miss out on next Sunday's one - Matthew Amoah (Ghana/NAC Breda)
