The United States Senate has confirmed the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the US Supreme Court. She will now become the first Hispanic Supreme Court Justice in US history.
Ms Sotomayor’s nomination was approved by 68 votes to 31 and represents a major victory not only for her but for President Barack Obama, who nominated her.
The 55-year-old is only the third woman to be appointed to the US Supreme Court.
