Two Venezuelan soldiers have been shot dead in the state of Táchira, near the border with Colombia. The snipers were riding motorbikes.
The Venezuelan authorities have responded by closing a number of posts along the Colombian border. The government in Caracas believes the murders were committed by Colombian paramilitaries, as a reprisal for the murder of nine Colombians in the same region.
