The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has suspended Togo from the next two African Nations Cup competitions.
The CAF reached its decision after Togo withdrew from this year's tournament following the death of two team members in an ambush in the Angolan province of Cabinda on 8 January. The team's assistant coach and spokesman were killed and two players were injured when their bus was fired on by Cabindan separatists.
After the attack the players said they still wanted to take part in the competition. However, they eventually acceded to Togolese Prime Minister Gilbert Fousson Houngbo's request that they return home for three days of national mourning. The CAF said the recall by Togolese authorities contravened CAF and African Nations Cup regulations. Togo has said it will appeal against the suspension.
The final of this year's competition is to be played on Sunday, between Egypt and Ghana.
