Thai protesters again flood Bangkok

Published on 20 March 2010 - 11:40am
More about:

Tens of thousands of Thai opposition protesters have again taken to the streets of the capital Bangkok in their bid to topple the government of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.

Red-shirted supporters of ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra packed trucks, cars and motorbikes in a huge convoy blocking some streets and intersections. They are vowing to continue their protests until the government resigns. They say Prime Minister Abhisit's government is illegitimate, as it came to power as a result of the political crises which followed the 2006 military coup against then Prime Minister Thaksin.

On Sunday, the demonstrators plan to make a large street painting with blood to underline their demands. On Tuesday and Wednesday they held "blood for democracy" protests and threw bags of their own blood at the prime minister's office and his family home.
