Somalia's Islamist movement, Al-Shabab, has declared the jihad against neighbouring country Kenya. Sheikh Hussein Abdi Gedi, the deputy commander of the Islamists, accused Kenya of moving troops in the border region of the two countries, Radio Garowe reported on Monday.
Al-Shabaab, which recently announced wanting to join Al-Qeada in its holy war, has now accused Kenya to train Somali government troops.
In turn, the Somali transitional government in Mogadishu has accused Eritrea of supplying weapons to Islamic insurgents. Information Minister Sheikh Dahir Mahmud Guelleh claims that
the government in Eritrea wants to destabilize the crisis in Somalia even further.
Al Shabaab militias and others insurgent movements try to overthrow Somalia's interim government leaded by the moderate Islamist Sheikh Sharif Ahmed. They control large parts of Somalia, including large areas near Mogadishu. In January fights between government troops and Islamic rebels killed almost 260 people. More than 80 000 civilians fled violence. Somalia has no functioning government since 1991.
