Rudeboys of the road: commuter taxi conductors in Zimbabwe

Published on : 14 May 2014 - 1:16pm | By RNW Africa Desk (Photo: Henry Trotter/Wikimedia commons)
More about:

In many, if not all, African countries, people move around in commuter taxis. In Kenya they are called matattu, in Uganda they are known as bodabodas, and in Zimbabwe people hop into an imtshova or a mchova. Many people complain about the rude behaviour and bad manners of taxi conductors, who collect fares and help passengers on and off the vehicle.

In this week's edition of Speak Up, we speak to young people in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe about commuter taxi conductors, and we ask the conductors themselves what they think of their reputation.

Producers: Ndumiso Tshuma and Emmanuel Nkomo

Host: Emmanuel Nkomo

Speak UP! is an audio show in which young Africans discuss thorny social issues without pulling any punches. It is created by a selection of young hosts and producers in Zimbabwe, South Sudan, Rwanda, Nigeria and Kenya, working in partnership with local media organizations and RNW. Each edition of Speak UP! provides YOU with a chance to express yourself – because everybody wants to be heard.

In different countries we have found the transportation system is completely different from each other. Most probably in European countries we have found transportation system is highly developed rather than America and Africa continent. The above article also set a biggest example of worst transportation system and how people are facing different types of worst situation while traveling; most probably government provides better options in transportation system otherwise people are helpless during traveling.

Everywhere, the transportation facility is available but how can people use and the company give the better service for the people is important. There are many type of buses and other vehicles used for the transport and the better performance, they provide the better service.
