Nigeria risks being expelled from football if world's football association FIFA decides there has been political interference.
Yesterday Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan suspended the national team from international competition for two years following their poor performance in the World Cup. This measure would allow Nigeria to reorganise its football.
Jonathan's decision came a day after the executive committee of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) met to review the team's first round exit. After the meeting the sports minister informed FIFA of their decision.
FIFA is now taken the case in consideration. "It is too early to penalise Nigeria. But we are looking into this case. Further steps will be taken as soon as we consider action necessary. The worst sanction available is that a national association can be expelled," FIFA spokesman Nicolas Maingot said.
