Members of Liberia's truth commission have been receiving death threats since recommending that President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf be barred from office, the BBC is reporting.
Some members of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) have gone into hiding and turned of their mobile telephones.
The report suggested president Johnson-Sirleaf should be barred from holding public office after her presidential term ends in 2012.
Commission chairman, Jerome Verdier, received a text message that read: “Thanks for your report; but death awaits you…Your report has damaged our future.”
President Johnson Sirleaf, Africa's first elected female president, testified before the TRC about her involvement with Charles Taylor's National Patriotic Front rebel group. She was one of many politicians who supported rebels fighting against Samuel Doe's brutal regime.
The commission was established by Johnson Sirleaf in 2005.
