Love Matters - A Dutch take on sex

Published on : 3 November 2010 - 1:45pm | By RNW Africa Desk (Photo: RNW)
More about:

Love Matters is an English language site with news, views and easy-to-access information on sexuality and sexual health for teenagers and young adults around the world.

The site features regularly updated reports on sex-related topics from around the world, as well as blush-free information to help visitors get the best out of sex and relationships and stay healthy and happy.

Love Matters is produced by Radio Netherlands Worldwide and influenced by a Dutch view of sexuality and sexual health. The Dutch have a reputation for open, honest, and non-judgemental attitudes towards sex and comprehensive sex education is offered in most schools. This has resulted in some of the lowest rates of teenage pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections and abortion in the world, according to UN statistics. On average, young people in the Netherlands also start having sex at a later age than in countries where sex is a taboo subject.

Positive
At Love Matters, we believe a balanced approach to sexuality and health matters is important. We see sex as a wonderful thing to explore, share, and enjoy. And we think that if you provide young people with honest and positive information on sex, they’ll be more likely to have safer, healthier sex.

Partners
Love Matters is currently only available in English, but work is already underway on versions in other languages. The site is produced in collaboration with the Dutch organisations RIVM, SOA AIDS Netherlands, and Pharos.

RIVM, The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), a leading expertise centre which works mainly for the Dutch government but also shares knowledge with governments and supranational bodies around the world.

SOA AIDS, the Dutch expertise centre for HIV/AIDS and other STIs.

Pharos, a Dutch knowledge centre specialising in the field of health care for asylum seekers and other migrants.
