More about:

A group of ecstatic Libyan nationals based in Zimbabwe burnt their country’s flag at the Libyan embassy on Wednesday to celebrate the fall of ousted leader Muammar Gaddafi.

“Now we are free! now we are free! Gadaffi is gone!" the Libyans chanted outside the embassy in central Harare.

They were joined in the celebrations by the Ahmed Rabdi, First Secretary of the Libyan Embassy.

The jubilant Libyan nationals said belligerents fighting to end Gadaffi’s rule were liberation fighters, not rebels as suggested by the media.

“Gadaffi is stealing our oil and keeping the money for his family. Libyans did not get anything from him.”

Abduslam K. Sweey, a Libyan national who holds a top post with the African Rehabilitation Institute also spoke passionately about Gadaffi’s fall:

“We have the oil, we have everything but all Libyan people are hungry. Our people have been killed,” he said.

Later on the Libyan nationals said a prayer to thank their God for revolution in their country.

Zimbabwean police allowed the celebrations to proceed despite President Robert Mugabe's friendship with Gadaffi.
