The youngest son of North Korean leader Kim Jong-il has been appointed to a position in the country's Communist Party. South Korean MP Yoon Sang-hyun says Kim Jong-un is expected to succeed his father between 2010 and 2012.
Not much is known about Kim Jong-il's youngest son, who is thought to be 25 years of age. He completed his education at the National War College, North Korea's most prestigious military academy. Kim Jong-un reportedly takes after his father both in appearance and character.
Kim Jong-il's oldest son squandered his chances of succeeding his father when he travelled to Japan on a false passport because he wanted to visit Disneyland in Tokyo. Sources say the middle son is not suited for the job. Kim Jong-il's former sushi chef Kenji Fujimoto wrote in his memoirs that the North Korean leader considered his middle son too effeminate.
