Ivory Coast/Angola: Kalou Fit to Play Angola But Will He?

More about:

Salomon Kalou is expected to be fit for Cote d'Ivoire's last Group B game at the African Nations Cup against Angola on Monday but might be rested as a precaution.

From our toppartner allAfrica.com

The Chelsea striker was due to return to training on Saturday after he picked up a hamstring injury in the 2-0 win over Burkina Faso. The striker could be seen visibly to pull up while running after stretching the muscle, but he has now been pronounced fit to play.

With the Ivorians already guaranteed a place in the quarter-finals, coach Francois Zahoui might be tempted to leave Kalou out and give an opportunity to either Seydou Doumbia or Wilfried Bony to start alongside Didier Drogba.

Elephants
But that is not to suggest that the Elephants will not be seeking to keep up their 100 percent record in the tournament, which has already seen them through to the next round.

"The most important in a tournament is to score one more goal than your opponent. In this competition, we are first looking to win the match," said Ivorian coach Francois Zahoui.

The Ivorians need only draw to ensure top place in Malabo and stay in place for next weekend's quarter-final.

Errors
Opponents Angola need only draw to progress to the last eight but will win the group if they upset the odds and beat the Ivorians.

Top on the agenda for coach Lito Vidigal is to eradicate the errors that saw them held to a 2-2 draw by Sudan in their last game.

"For two successive matches we have lost the advantage. We need to work on our concentration," said the young coach.

Angola's striker Manucho is one of the leading scorers at the tournament and the man the Ivorian defence will have to keep a close eye on.

He made his name at the Nations Cup in 2008 and won a contract with Manchester United but his club career suffered subsequently. Now he is again showing his worth.
