The Netherlands has recorded its first cases of infection with the H1N1 Mexican flu virus in people who have not been in one of the so-called high-risk countries. An 18-year-old woman and an 18-month-old boy contracted the virus here in the Netherlands, and separately from one another, the national public health institute RIVM reports.
The boy was infected by his father, who became ill after visiting the United States. The man has now recovered. No details are known about the woman.
A total of 20 Mexican flu cases have now been recorded in the Netherlands. None of the patients have required hospital treatment. Other European countries have already reported cases of secondary infection.
