Burkina Faso's President Blaise Compaore is in Guinea in an attempt to mediate between the military junta and the opposition. Mr Compaore is an envoy of the Economic Community Of West African States. ECOWAS hopes to resolve the simmering tensions between the military junta and opponents of the regime.
The United Nations says more than 150 people were killed and female protesters raped by soldiers in last's weeks protests against the regime. The junta, led by Captain Moussa Dadis Camara, seized power after the death of President Lansana Conte at the end of last year.
