A donor conference for the western Sudanese region of Darfur has raised less money than expected.
The conference in the Egyptian capital Cairo was supposed to raise two billion dollars, but the European Union, Algeria, Australia, Brazil, Qatar, Morocco and Turkey were only willing to donate 850 million dollars.
The money is earmarked for restoring homes, infrastructure, education, health, and agriculture in the war-torn region.
Host country Egypt did not donate any money saying it already did enough for Sudan.
In 2003, civil war broke out in Darfur and since then 300,000 lives have been lost.
Khartoum has agreed a cease-fire with the two main rebel groups in Darfur in an attempt to regain peace in the region.
