Who is Gado?
Gado, real name Godfrey Mwampembwa, is one of Africa's most influential cartoonists. He draws a daily cartoon for Kenyan newspaper The Nation, and his work has appeared in various other publications, such asLe Monde, the Washington Times and the Japan Times.
Gado is also the man behind XYZ, a Kenyan satirical TV show commenting on current affairs and politics in the form of puppets. He was named Kenyan cartoonist of the year in 1999, and received the Dutch Prins Claus Award in 2007.
"I draw because I want to say something. My drawings are my tools," says the Tanzanian-born cartoonist.

Satire at its very best! Voters in Europe are accustomed to a very generous level of welfare benefits provided by the state and thus political expediency demands that the root of the problem cannot be dealt with, at least in the short term. Meanwhile the crisis drags on and affects the whole world economically while organizations like IMF, probably awash with cash themselves from the interests they charge on loans given and who exist to solve such problems, come cap in hand asking the casualties of Europe’s largess to solve a crisis very much of their own making. Irony indeed.
