Africans blame themselves for climate change

More about:

Many Africans blame themselves for climate change even though fossil fuel emissions there are less than 4% of the global total, a new survey called 'Africa Talks Climate Report' suggests. The survey was carried out for the BBC World Service Trust and the British Council.

The report also found that many Africans blame God for the changing weather.

Although it has become well-worn truism that those that did the least to cause climate change are those set to suffer the most from it, the report indicates that this message hasn't got through to many African as they lack key information.

Over 1,000 citizens in 10 countries took part in discussions to find out what Africans really know and understand about the climate.

Some 200 opinion leaders were also interviewed for the report.

Local government leaders were often among those least informed about global climate change.
