In recent years, droughts and floods are frequent in Africa. Both extremes are caused by the same evil: Climate Change. In the lead up to the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December, our reporters from Bridges with Africa have visited some Africans whose lives have been affected by the phenomenon.
We hear from a cotton farmer in Mali who suffered from drought, which has caused much damage to his harvest. Our colleague Martin Vogel went to visit the plantation.
Then, we move to Ghana which was also heavily affected by climate change, but where the complete opposite happened. Last September, flash floods affected more than one million Ghanaians. The farmer Adam Ayuu and his wife Alima were among those who suffered from the disaster and they share their experience with us.
Listen to the report below:
Africa must be prepared for more droughts, floods and cyclones because of climate change caused by industrial pollution, which has already damaged rural economies on the continent. Human activity is unequivocably driving climate change and unless it is modified, it will cause temperatures to rise by as much as 6.4 degrees Celsius by the end of the century, experts say.
