Africa needs 7 bln euros to fight climate change

Published on 30 November 2009 - 1:11pm
More about:

Africa needs at least 7 billion euros by 2030 to fight against damage caused by climate change.

According to the Pan African Alliance for climate, which released a report to this effect on Friday in Kenya, the damage caused by the industrialized countries need to be compensated.

According to the report, Africa emits 1 ton of CO2 per person per year, whereas a country like the Netherlands produces 11.

Because of this pollution, the continent would experience a warming of 1.5 degrees celsius. Calculations of the organisation concluded that 2 degrees higher would mean  twice the price for the fight against global warming.

The consequences are essentially the number of people suffering from diarrhea and malaria, as well as floods and the negative effects on agriculture.
