Afghan Taliban leader willing to talk to NATO

Published on 6 November 2009 - 9:08am
More about:

Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Omar is reported to be willing to hold talks with NATO. German NATO General Egon Ramms says sources in Europe have delivered Mullah Omar's message.

General Ramms heads NATO headquarters in Brunssum in the Netherlands from where the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan is led.

He says possible talks with the Taliban is a matter for the Afghan government and not for NATO. The alliance could, however, help former Taliban fighters integrate back into normal life.
