Within just one week, 111 Nigerians were deported from Europe. Fifty eight were sent from Dublin, Ireland, early this week aboard a charted flight arranged by the Irish government.
Fifty three other Nigerians were expelled from Spain and brought to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Thursday, aboard an Air Europa aircraft, Nigerian Guardian newspaper reported.
According to immigration sources, 47 of the deportees violated Spanish immigration laws while six others were deported based on criminal offences.
Officials at the airport allowed the returning Nigerians without criminal charges to go home while those with criminal cases were detained for further interrogations.
The number of Nigerians being deported on a daily basis from around the world has become a source of worry to immigrations officers at airports, officials told the Guardian.
More than 3,000 Nigerians have been deported in the last three months.
